The Next Best Thing to Being There...

As it sometimes happens, a couple of years ago, I had a fleeting moment in time when I actually grasped the truth of living just for today. I wrote a blog post about it (in a different blog), called “In the Now.”

It seems like we are continually reminded that Life can come in and change everything. No – that’s not right. Life will come in and change everything. That’s a Universal law.
Why is it so hard to remember?

I’ve unearthed the old blog post and have posted a bit of it below.

Except from “In the Now”

Yesterday, I had a mini-epiphany. It happened while I was blow-drying my hair. (I get a fair number of epiphanies this way).

WHY should we ever live our lives AS IF they are incomplete – as if we are waiting, waiting, for change and just coping and dealing with in-the-meantime?

Why waste one second of life – Beautiful Life – by thinking it is the next best thing to being there?

What an injustice to the hour at hand.

The truth is, we are in the now whether we want to acknowledge it or not.

In the now…...I will choose to be happy.

In the now…...I will appreciate the beauty and the balance of nature.

In the now…...I will love.

  3. TRUTH! Thanks, I need to be reminded of this too. One of the most important things we can learn here, in my opinion. It's those who can cultivate a deep inner life who have true riches. People who ignore their soul for superficial things are impoverished.

  4. Not a bad “mini-epiphany” to have. Too many of us spend our lives like we spend a normal week. We sit around doing the usual routine, spending too much of our time hoping five o’clock would get here, giving ourselves a boost on hump day, and TGIF! We might have a little fun on the weekend…or sit around and waste it claiming our much needed rest from the pressures of wishing our lives away during the preceding week.
Too many don’t have your epiphany until much later in life, when the “weekend” is almost over and we realize…”Holy Crap! Times almost up and I didn’t get anything done. Oh, well…there’s always next weekend…right?”
    Uh oh.

  6. Author Lillie Goodrich tells in her book, The Little Book of Everyday Soul, how she set the alarm on her watch to go off every 15 minutes to remind her to stay in the now. In the beginning she was amazed at how many times she was thinking of the past or future dispite the recent reminder.
